On 3 April 2026, Lowestoft RNLI responded to a call for assistance to a solo yachtsman who had suffered engine failure off our shore. The casualty vessel was towed back to safety in what was difficult conditions, well done to our local Lifeboat crew for their excellent work! Pakefield Coastwatch supported the rescue, with the Watchkeeper on duty being the first to spot the vessel, forwarding on the faint Pan Pan message to Humber Coastguard, along with an accurate update of the vessels position. Well done to our duty Watchkeeper

Elsewhere, work is ongoing to maintain the station and its equipment, a never ending task given the 19th Century lighthouse takes a battering from the coastal conditions. Recently we have had a new VHF radio installed with masts adjusted to improve our listening capability, and further improvements to the office and kitchen space. The charity is holding its AGM in the coming weeks so we look forward to reflecting on a busy year for the PCW team.
