The summer season as been a busy one at Pakefield Coastwatch, with volunteer Watchkeepers remaining on duty 8am-8pm weekdays and 8am-4pm weekends throughout the hot weather. We have been treated to some amazing views of the East coast, with Lowestoft beach looking busy with tourists and locals.
Some further work has been undertaken at the lighthouse, with an new upgraded computer installed, as well as a new fridge in the operations room to help Watchkeepers keep cool. Members of the team also attended the RNLI Fun day in Lowestoft, and a further event planned later this month with the Pakefield Community Fete.
We’d also like to congratulate Beth who has become our latest fully-trained Watchkeeper, being awarded her new epaulettes by our Training Officer Andy. Well done and welcome to the team! We are still actively recruiting for more Watchkeepers so please get in touch if you are interested.
Our AGM took place on 12 June. We celebrated a strong 2024 as well as some major milestones of service for several of our Watchkeepers.
Work at Pakefield Holiday Park is ongoing in preparation for its new role housing workers for the construction of Sizewell C. For the time being, you can still access the Lighthouse for visits and enquires (as well as our public assess defibrillator) via the path through the gap in the cliffs below the lighthouse from Pakefield Beach (see map below).
Belated thank-you goes out to North Star Shipping for the donation of 35m of safety rope which will be used to repair the handrail in the lighthouse.
